How to Create an Opt-In Quiz

Learn how to make irresistible opt-in quizzes that keep your audience hooked from start to finish.

1. Make a Plan

Creating an effective opt-in quiz starts with a solid plan and clear goal. At its core, an opt-in quiz is the first step of a quiz funnel, a strategy that guides users from engagement to conversion. It starts with an interactive quiz that captures attention and collects leads, then nurtures those leads through personalized follow-ups, offers, or recommendations.

But to make it effective, you need to think beyond collecting a quiz taker’s email address – what value will you offer in return? Whether your goal is to support an email opt-in campaign or a newsletter opt-in, your quiz should deliver something your audience can’t resist – like personalized results, exclusive discounts, or useful insights.

Next, think about your audience – what are their interests, struggles, or needs? Look for inspiration in social media trends or topics that align with your product or service. The more relatable your quiz is, the more likely it will grab attention.

2. Choose the right type of quiz

Not all online quizzes are the same. Make sure you’re choosing the right quiz type that matches your goal:

  • Guide users to their perfect match with a product recommendation quiz that highlights the best products for their needs.
  • Engage your audience with a highly shareable Buzzfeed-style quiz to help them discover their unique personality traits.
  • Challenge your audience with a trivia quiz, and offer a prize to the winner to boost participation and excitement.

3. Create your opt-in quiz

Now it’s time to create your quiz. Start by writing an attention-grabbing title that encourages people to click. Use words like ‘you’ or ‘your’ to make it personal and create intrigue and urgency with words like ‘discover’ or ‘secret’.

Add an eye-catching title to your opt-in quiz for better results.

Before you get started on your quiz questions, focus on defining your quiz results. Who are you trying to reach, and what do they care about? Think about the types of people you want to target and define the outcomes that align with these personas.

For example, if you’re creating a health assessment quiz, your outcomes might cater to people who are highly health-conscious, moderately balanced, or looking to improve their habits.

With your quiz results defined, it’s time to write the questions. Keep them short, clear, and fun to answer, and don’t forget to add some visuals—images, videos, or GIFs can make a big difference. To keep your audience interested, try to aim for about 10 questions.

You can also make your quiz feel more personal by using skip logic, a feature that creates personalized experiences by tailoring the quiz based on participants’ answers. This means each person gets a customized path of questions that feels relevant and engaging, keeping them invested until the end.

Don’t forget to let participants know they’ll receive their personalized results – or a reward like a coupon or discount – immediately after completing the form.

When you’re done, click ‘Save’ and exit this page.

If your quiz is ready to go live, click ‘Publish’.

5. Share your quiz
