January is National Mentoring Month! To celebrate, Gladstone’s Mentoring Task Force put on a “Speed Mentoring” event.

Speed Mentoring is a riff of speed dating where trainees can meet multiple mentors in a short period of time.

The event was hosted by Gladstone’s Mentoring Task Force. The Mentoring Task Force includes faculty, postdocs, students, and members of the administration who regularly meet and discuss how to improve mentoring at Gladstone.

During this event, trainees were paired with five different mentors most likely to align with their career goals for 5 minutes of conversation with each.

Mentors from a range of career fields including industry, policy and regulation, business development, entrepreneurship, and academia shared their knowledge and insight with Gladstone trainees.

Mentors also listened to trainees as they outlined their current career goals with a brief “pitch” about their interests.

Over 20 mentors and trainees participated in the Speed Mentoring event.

The event included time for trainees to meet mentors that were not in their rotation.

Trainees were encouraged to keep in touch with mentors they connected with to continue mentorship beyond the event.

This successful event is just one of many ways that Gladstone is fulfilling its strategic plan and the goal to “mentor future leaders.”
