Sports Massage is a form of manual therapy that aims to improve general health and wellbeing through the mobilisation and manipulation of soft tissue and myofascial structures. Our therapists apply to evidence-based massage techniques to keep your body moving efficiently and injury-free.
Sports Massage can be applied pre-event to acutely improve sports performance, post-event to enhance recovery from training/competition or as a maintenance strategy to reduce the risk of overtraining injuries.
Benefits: Improves lymphatic and blood flow, relaxation of soft tissues, removal of metabolic waste products, muscle and fascial mobility, muscle tone and reduces pain.

To quote the Sports Massage Association (SMA), Soft Tissue Therapy is the “management, manipulation, and rehabilitation of soft tissues”. Similar to sports massage, Soft Tissue Therapy uses specific evidence-based techniques to prevent and provide relief from soft tissue injuries and dysfunctions.
Essentially Soft Tissue Therapy can speed up recovery from soft tissue injuries (e.g., muscle strains, ligament sprains, etc.) after 3 days following injury by reducing swelling, and increasing range of motion and muscle function.
Benefits: Improves range of motion, blood flow, muscle function and reduces muscle/fascial tension, scar tissue, adhesions, pain/discomfort, muscle spasms, tissue stiffness and facilitates recovery/rehabilitation from injury.

Thermotherapy is the application of hot or cold temperatures to modify soft tissue responses. Hot Therapy (e.g., Hot Stone Massage) aims to raise soft tissue temperature which can increase blood flow leading to accelerate soft tissue healing. Cold Therapy (a.k.a. Cryotherapy) is the application of cold objects to cool the soft tissue so to reduce blood flow and limit further damage following injury.
Cold Therapy can be applied immediately following injury, whereas Hot Therapy can be applied from 3 days post-injury, both of which can help provide relief from pain.
Benefits: Provides an analgesic effect to relieve pain, reduce inflammation and swelling, increase/decrease blood flow and improve range of motion.

Dry Cupping can be considered as an “anti-massage”, where specialised plastic cups are placed on the skin to create suction. The suction creates space in the underlying tissues for blood flow to increase.
Benefits: Improves blood flow, reduces pain and inflammation, and facilitates the tissue healing process.

Percussion Therapy utilises a combination of rapid, repeated pressure and vibration therapy via a Theragun. The ‘head’ of the Theragun directly transfers vibration energy to muscles and tendons with the aim to improve pain, strength and flexibility.
Benefits: Improves muscular strength, muscular power, range of motion, bone mineral density, and reduces pain.

Sport Taping and Stepping is a method of applying various adhesive tapes to provide support to injured soft tissue structures to prevent re-injury and help to raise confidence of athletes returning to sport. Kinesiology Taping is the application of stretchy tape that mimics the elastic properties of the skin to improve the function of injured soft tissues during rehabilitation.
Benefits: Improves range of motion, proprioception, neuromuscular control, muscular strength, tissue healing and reduces swelling and pain following injury.
