Surveillance Academy Assessment
Please answer the questions to the best of your ability.
Your subject has arrived at an upscale, private country club that is not open to the public (unless you are a guest of a current member). The subject has entered the club and you must verify what activities they engage in, even if you are unable to obtain video footage. You change into a polo shirt and slacks from your surveillance bag and enter the club. Once inside, a concierge immediately asks: “Can I help you?”
What would you do?
You follow a subject into a restaurant. Upon entering the restaurant to continue surveillance, the hostess immediately greets you and begins showing you to a table that does not give you a view of your subject.
What is your response?
It is Thursday at 5:15 pm and you are following your subject on a busy freeway. There are two vehicles between you, and the subject is about to exit the freeway into a downtown area.
What is the best method of following at this point?
You are following a subject in a mountainous environment, along a rural one-lane highway. There are very few vehicles on the road besides you and your subject.
Which following method would you choose?
You are following a subject into a rural area and suddenly you lose sight of their vehicle due to a traffic obstruction. Before you lost visual contact, you saw that the subject turned onto a main road that goes through a small town with various shops and restaurants. This road also passes out of the town and continues to a large city fifteen minutes away.
What is the best course of action to perform first?
You follow your subject to an intersection near a large retail plaza. Your vehicle gets stuck at the traffic light, but you can observe as the subject enters the parking lot of the plaza. You follow and can locate the subject’s vehicle parked in between three possible retail stores.
What will be your strategy to locate the subject?
Your subject lives with an identical twin and you do not know what your subject looks like. While you are set up at the residence, both twins exit but you are not sure who the subject is.
How could you confirm the identity of your subject?
Your subject is a 20-year-old woman who was involved in a major car accident.
What information could you uncover about her using only publicly available sources and social media?
You arrive at the address marked below at 6:30 am (see photo.) There is ample parking on their street, and you note that a main road leading to the freeway is to the south of the residence.
Where would be an optimal setup location?
You arrive at the address below at 5:00 am in January (see photo). The client suspects that the subject is working under the table for a friend’s construction company. We worked the subject prior and the last investigator lost the subject as he drove in a pickup truck at 6:00 am.
Which of the following setup locations is optimal for both an expected early morning (dark hours) pick-up and our client’s immediate surveillance goal?
Thank you for taking the assessment.
We will be in touch.
