All in all, counting all monuments from hotels to statues, Paris has over 296 illuminated sights, at Christmas more than 4 km/2.48 miles of lights and the Eiffel Tower has 20,000 light bulbs. However its nickname dates back to the reign of the Sun King Louis XIV. After a period of unrest, he asked the head of the Police to make the city safer. One of the ways to do so was to put up public lanterns in the street.

The rue de Vaugirard is 4,35km/2.7 miles long. It crosses both the 6th and 15th arrondissement. However in terms of width, the largest is the avenue Foch.

In spite of its name which translates as the 'New Bridge', le Pont Neuf is the oldest one in Paris. The first plans were drawn up in 1556 by Henry II but the bridge was completed under the reign of Henri IV, 47 years later in 1603.

Saint Denis was Paris’ first Bishop in the 3rd century. He died as a martyr. Sainte Geneviève who lived between 422 AD and 502 AD is said to have saved Paris by diverting Attila's Huns away from the city thanks to her prayers.

The Saint Honoré was invented around 1850 in Paris by Chiboust, a famous pâtisserie located in rue Saint Honoré. Saint Honoré is also the Patron Saint of bakers.

The Paris Brest was invented near Paris in maison Laffitte in honour of the famous bike race from Paris to Brest.

The Tarte Tatin however was invented in Sologne.

The obelix measuring 23m/75.45 foot was originally located at the entrance of the Luxor Temple in Egypt. It is over 3,300 years old and was gifted by Muhammad Ali. However the oldest monument built in Paris is the amphitheater “Les Arènes de Lutèce” dating back to the 1st century AD.

The artist gifted his huge compositions depicting the beautiful lily ponds from his gardens in Giverny to the nation of France. The twenty curved panels were installed in a specific room in the musée de l’Orangerie
