10 Tips for Running in the Morning
Want to begin your day with a jog, but don't know where to start? Try our tips for the beginners and get closer to a healthy lifestyle.
Go To Sleep Early
There is no need to make an aggressive jump like going to bed at 8 pm when you are making a lifestyle change. Just try to go to sleep 30 minutes earlier. By building up your fall asleep time slowly you will be able to change your body’s internal clock over time.
Plan Your Running Out The Night Before
Decide where you're going to run, for how long and how far. Write down your workout plan.
Lay Out Your Running Clothes
Prep everything you will need including socks, shorts, sports bra, sneakers etc. Some newbie runners even prefer sleeping in their running clothes. It makes it just a little bit easier to get going.
Start With 5 Minutes, Take Baby Steps
Don't begin with a marathon. It's enough to start with 5 minutes run. The short run will not take much time, but at the same time, it will allow your body to ease into the idea of morning jogging.
Hydrate Before Your Run
Don't run immediately after waking up. Make sure to drink at least 8 ounces of water when you first wake up. It's also important to drink water during your run if you're running longer than 30 minutes.
Eat Before A Longer Run
If you're running longer than an hour or doing a really intense speed workout, make sure to have a 300-500 calorie breakfast of mostly carbs in an hour and a half before the run.
Don't Run Alone
You’ll find a million excuses if it’s just you. But if you have a buddy to run with, or if you can join a running group, you will be less likely to hit the snooze button and stay in bed. Make a commitment to each other that you’ll show up and hold each other accountable.
Consider A Workout You Have To Pay For
Buy a gym membership or even session with a trainer. It's really easier to get up in the morning when you think of the money you'd waste if you stay in the bed.
Have A Goal Or Race In Mind
You need a reason to get up every day early. Just find the goal that will keep you motivated.
Treat Yourself!
Develop reward mechanisms for yourself. Say, ‘If I don't miss running this week, I’ll buy/do something special.’ Also, remember to praise yourself after the each run. Don't forget to eat and drink something fresh and tasty in 30 to 60 minutes after you finish exercising.
