Unless permitted by a court order, child support for dependent children must be paid to the parent in whose home the child resides even after they've turned 18. Failing to do this might result in accrual of arrears. Making payments directly to the child disregards the costs incurred by the primary parent who remains responsible for housing, feeding and other expenses for the dependent child. However with consent or court order payments can be made to older children for post secondary expenses.

Regardless of infidelity, married spouses have equal rights to possession/ occupation of the matrimonial home. Without a court order or police recognizance, a spouse can not be excluded from the residence without their consent.

In determining custody and access disputes the court will consider a host of factors in determining the child's best interest. One of those factors is a parent's willingness to involve the other parent in important aspects of the child's life. Making unilateral decisions when the other parent is involved in their life is typically not the best move.

Parents have a positive obligation to encourage their children's relationship with the other parent. This means that even where the children put up some resistance, the parent should listen but encourage them to attend scheduled visits, absent any abuse or safety concerns. This is a good parenting strategy that demonstrates maturity and prioritization of the children's best interest over self interest or personal grievances.
