X's Story Listening Quiz
These questions check your listening comprehension. After you answer each question you will see the section of the story that answers the question.
Why couldn't X play shiritori?
In the story we are told "the other letters didn't want to play with X." This is the best answer. We don't really know if the other letters like X or not, the story doesn't say. We also don't if X likes shiritori or not, only that the other letter letters didn't want to play shiritori with X. Complicated or not not, the rules of shiritori are such that the other letters didn't want to play with X.
You can read between the lines and use your understanding to justify one of the other answers, but "the other letters didn't want to play with X" is the only one clearly stated in the story.https://youtu.be/m3LmLIxTi68
What makes X important?
"Asking different questions" is the answer given in the story. The answer is not explained but the answers to the questions Q asks all show ways in which X is important. Winning shiritori might be a very immediate way of feeling important- or at least better than the other letters. Being accepted by the other letters and our opinion of X might show how X is important to us. Is that enough? Should X be looking for something more? Should we?https://youtu.be/D_Tzn9ZqLNw
How would you feel if you were X?
This is an opinion question. Any answer can be correct. The challenge is to be able to explain your answer, ideally with reference to something in X's story.
The story does say directly that X was sad at the beginning. At the end of the story you can see in the illustrations that X is smiling. And the dark clouds that follow X walking away from the game could suggest anger as well as sorrow. But who knows? It is confusing. Which moment of the story should we focus on? How would we feel by the end of everything? That will depend on each of us, our life experiences and worldview. We will each have different answers, we have so much to teach each other.https://youtu.be/gFXEBhTri3Y
Did the quiz help you understand the story better?
Was the quiz helpful? Did it help you understand the story better?
There are some answers we can find directly in the text. Some we can justify by reading between the lines and others we can only find by looking within ourselves.
And there is so much more we can offer by sharing our answers with each other.
