What Alabama food should you stock up on for the Arctic blast?
With an Arctic blast rolling in, Alabama is about to be cold. Real cold. And that means groceries stores will soon be packed with people stocking up on food to avoid having to brave the below-freezing temperatures headed our way.
Planning on doing the same, but aren't sure what you should be stocking up on? Well, you're in luck, because this quiz will fill you in on what Alabmians should buy before this winter weather hits.
As they say, don't fix what isn't broken. Since the dawn of time (probably), we've been rushing out to grocery stores to stock up on bread and milk before meteorologist James Spann could even get the words "Arctic blast" out. Why stop now? And speaking of now, you should probably get going before they sell out.
Instead of the usual cold weather fare, why not go with something guaranteed to offer up a little more warmth -- and a little heat too -- with some Conecuh sausage. You can eat it solo or toss some of those Sister Schubert's yeast rolls in the buggy as well. Either way, it'll be better than a milk sandwich.
It only seems right that when an artic blast comes through Alabama, a pot of chili is on the stove when it happens. Sure, buying the ingredients to make chili is a little more work than simply surviving this cold weather on milk and bread alone, but do you want to just survive it -- or do you want to thrive instead?
You should take the traditional "bread and milk" one step further by making a pan of cornbread to help keep warm during this cold weather. It'll be more filling and can pair up with anything else you've got in the pantry too. That said, keep milk on the grocery list. You'll need something to crumble that cornbread into, after all.
Cold weather calls for a sweet treat, and is there a better one to warm up with than a hot biscuit topped with Golden Eagle syrup? (That question was rhetorical because there isn't.)
