An older person starts a friendly conversation in the checkout line at the store. How do you typically react?

I will give him as much time as I can. I love listening to stories.

I will try to talk but it's hard to relate sometimes. So I'll mostly avoid eye contact.

I do enjoy it, but I am so busy. I politely excuse myself.

Your friend asks you to join her for a run in the morning. This is new for you. What do you do?

Say yes, but worry about how I'll do.

No thank you! Can we do something else together?

YES! I'll try anything once.

Your day started okay but is quickly falling apart. So many things keep getting in your way. Relationships are struggling. Things are just not where you want them to be. What do you do?

I am going back to bed!

Keep on keeping on. it's going to improve. It has to.

Give up on the things that aren't working and try something else.

Your brother is having a hard time at school or work. You had a great conversation about it, but he isn't taking your advice. How do you react?

I wish he'd listen to me. I guess he doesn't need my advice.

Keep telling him to take your advice. You've been through this!

Maybe he didn't want to do it that way. I'll still support what he does.

You accidentally upset someone, now what do you do?

Acknowledge my mistake, learn from it, and move on.

Beat myself up and avoid people for a while.

Apologize, but continue to be hard on myself.

You are an Innovator

Innovators are eager to try new ideas. While others may consider the Innovator to be risky and daring, the Innovator is willing to accept the occasional setback when new ideas are unsuccessful (Rogers, 1971). You likely have some great stories of youth-adult partnerships to share and are eager to learn more.
